What's on at knitshop.co.uk in April - will closed for a couple of weeks in April, which means we’ll be running only a handful of workshops. Because of this we’ve decided to focus on our most popular classes.
With the kids off
school for the Easter holidays, we’re running two classes aimed at
getting the younger generation hooked on knitting and crochet. On
Friday 25 April, we’ll be encouraging kids to Swing
The Needles and take their first foray into either
finger knitting (for the very young) or regular knitting. There’s
also the option of learning crochet or knitting on a loom if they
prefer.

Having mastered
casting on their first stitches, students learn how to create knit
rows of garter stitch. By the end of the two-hour Swing
The Needles class, they’ll be able on their way to
making their first knitted square or strip. This can then be turned
into a pencil case, purse, friendship bracelet or other small item.
As with all our workshops, we offer phone and email support, so if
your child gets into a pickle later, we’ll be able to help them
complete their knitting project.
The second class for
kids is on Saturday 26 April. This class, Let’s
Get Hooked, specifically focuses on crochet and
teaches you how to make your first crochet chains and use them as the
basis of a friendship bracelet, phone case, flower or necklace.

As with the Swing
The Needles class, we offer finger knitting and
knitting with a loom as an alternative that younger children may find
it easier to learn initially.
Kids’ classes at
knitshop.co.uk are suitable for five-year-olds and upwards. Attendees
must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Kids’ classes cost £10
each while adult classes are £15 each. We provide all the materials
you need for the project and written instructions on how to complete
it at home.
If you’ve learned
the basics of knitting but want to improve your technique, we’ve
got an Improvers
Knitting workshop on Friday 25 April that shows you
how to get even tension, so your knitted items look smooth with
uniform stitches. We’ll also cover working increase and decrease
rows using various techniques and how to read knitting patterns and
charts.
If you want to learn
crochet or take the next step having learned the basics, our Crochet
A Granny Square workshop on Saturday 26 April is for
you. You’ll find out how to create chains of crochet and combine
doubles and trebles to create simple patterns. Using these skills,
you’ll work on your first Granny Square – a classic crochet
design that you can use as the basis of crocheted homewares and
garments.
Finally, on Friday
25 April we will also be offering a free
SOS Clinic in which we help you work out where a
knitting or crochet project has gone off track and how to fix it.
We’re happy for you to drop in on the day, but priority will be
given to those who have booked.
